AMELIA FREER’S TIPS On How To Get A Healthy GLOW

Amelia-Tips

With the launch of her new book Eat. Nourish. Glow. (HarperCollins, £16.99) Nutritionist Amelia Freer is well placed to know the importance of the food you eat for the health of your skin and managing your mood – two key components for getting your glow. We asked Amelia to share her favorite tips for getting nourishing mind, body and soul…..

‘Good skin and a healthy glow start with the foods you eat. My favourites include the ‘healthy’ fat filled avocados, which help to feed the skin from the inside out. Hydration is obviously a key component too – fill your glass with water and nourish it with a mineral rich bone broth – drink it alone or use as a base for soups and sauces. Activated nuts & seeds and of course oily fish all provide the skin with essential fatty acids which help you maintain a glow! To get the best out of these foods have a flick through my recipe book for some of my skin-friendly recipes. Their are a few surprising ones  that people may not realise are great for skin health – mackerel pate, chocolate marshmallows, beef curry, lemon mousse, a rainbow sandwich and even the coffee milkshake have key ingredients included that make the skin ‘shine’ (in a good way).

As well as food playing and important part in skin health so too do other elements of your lifestyle. Sleep goes without saying but don’t forget laughter, finding the right tools for you to manage stress, get some movement and make peace with food. Find out what works for you and enjoy it rather than meal times being another thing to stress about in your life.

However on key component that often gets overlooked is our digestion. Ensuring this is functioning optimally is the corner stone of having a healthy glow. To get the best out of your food remember to….

  • Be mindful while eating- take your time and enjoy every mouthful.
  • Chew food properly – this enhances nutrient absorption and is important for giving the stomach a hand with breaking down food.
  • Eat prebiotic foods and take a daily probiotic – maintaining healthy gut flora is key to healthy skin.
  • Breathing and Moving – Both are important elements of detoxification – from boosting lymphatic system to allowing your skin to sweat.

Don’t forget we have bacteria residing in our gut and on our skin – how we feed these bacteria has a huge impact on how our skin and gut behaves. You may notice changes in your skin when you eat certain foods – take notice of these and use then as a guide to what is happening in the rest of your body.
