Content Approved Healthy Breakfast Options in London

Breakfast is without a doubt the most important meal of the day, and here at Content HQ our favourite meal of the day! Whilst it’s easy to blend up a green smoothie or whip up a batch of chia seed pudding at home, finding nutritious breakfast options out or on the go can pose more of a challenge. Just in time for this year’s Content Wellbeing Festival, we have rounded up our favourite sweet and savoury breakfast choices from some of London’s healthiest whole-food havens to ensure you always get your day off to right start.

For sweet tooths…

Whilst porridge is usually considered more of a Wintery breakfast option, Granger & Co’s brown rice and sweet miso version is made light and refreshing with the addition of cooling and creamy dairy-free coconut yoghurt and fresh mango slices and is the perfect start to a Summers day. Paired alongside ‘Bills signature green smoothie’ featuring a cleansing blend of green apple, cucumber, silver beet, chia seeds and young coconut – this skin-loving concoction has fast become one of our favourite Summery green smoothie blends.

If you love digging into a big bowl of hearty goodness but grains or gluten are an issue, raw and organic eatery Nama offer a porridge alternative made from a concoction of fresh mature coconut, dates, almonds, apples, vanilla and spices; bejewelled with a topping of cacao nibs, hemp seeds and blueberries for an added super food boost.

If you’re yet to try out Andina in East London then be sure to add it to your healthy-to-do, as their Quinoa and Amaranth porridge topped with seasonal fruit and naturally sweetened with a drizzle of purple corn syrup has fast become a Content favourite!

For smoothie lovers…

If you prefer to start your day with a nutrient packed punch of liquid sustenance it’s important you ensure it is full of fresh and healthy ingredients to encourage steady blood sugar levels and satiety throughout the morning.

We love The Juice Well’s Summer Lovin’ smoothie – a season sensible blend of hydrating and alkalizing coconut water, hemp, coconut oil and dates combined with antioxidant rich berries that are great for the skin as well as warding off the aging effects of anxiety, toxins and free radicals.

If you love to workout in the morning then  The Juice Tonic’s  range of Protein Elixirs offer the perfect post-workout nourishment. We love the Repair Master – a raw, vegan and energising mix of almond milk, banana, almond butter, lucuma, maca, ginseng, sunwarrior vanilla, glutamine and raw agave. Not only does this healthy shake induce muscle recovery, but the addition of maca assists in the regulation of hormones whilst glutamine works to nourish and heal the stomach.

For something savoury…

If you can’t shake your weekend ritual of a greasy fry up then fear not, we have a range of healthy alternatives that will allow you to enjoy your savoury breakfast favourites without derailing your healthy eating habits.

If it’s eggs that take your fancy then head on down to the Good Life Eatery for their take on eggs Benedict, an artfully arranged package of freshly sliced avocado, cherry tomatoes and poached eggs atop a slice of gluten free toast topped with light saffron natural yoghurt sauce. For the ultimate in healthy breakfast fare and a favourite of fit foodies alike, try out the Clean & Lean – a mix of sweet potatoes, quinoa, kale, poached eggs topped off with a dollop of home-made pesto.

For a vegan alternative to morning eggs, Namas raw take on the traditional omelette is a must-try. Featuring a savoury crepe filled with marinated mushrooms, tomato relish, greens, caramelised onions and fennel, this hearty weekend breakfast favourite is topped off with Namas signature fermented cashew cheese which we love for its gut-friendly properties.

For a savoury vegan option nothing quite beats avocado on toast. For the best of the bunch head to Retreat Cafe (now conveniently located at triyoga Soho!) and try out founder, naturopath and chef Kimberly Parsons take on this simple breakfast classic. Whilst not completely gluten free, spelt is often better tolerated by those with gluten sensitivities which is why Parsons has chosen to make spelt the star of the show. Thick cut slices are generously topped with perfectly ripe avocado, pumpkin seeds and olive oil making for the perfect post-yoga meal or snack. If you can tolerate gluten, then Climpson & Son’s version is equally as delicious: Sitting atop a slice of the freshest sourdough (an easier digestible grain to most bread varieties) are generous lashings of smashed avocado topped with sumac, crushed pistachios, a sprinkling of chilli flakes, a squeeze of lemon and fresh rocket.
