We’re excited to launch the first instalment of Content Skin School – where we’ll be guiding you through the musings and trends in natural and organic beauty. It’s a peek into what we like to discuss in the office and on the shop floor.
Lately we’ve been discussing the trend towards Indian-inspired cooking ingredients in skincare. It seems the culinary traditions of India are both food for the skin and beauty food all in one!
These are a few of our current favourites:
Turmeric is one of the most potent anti-inflammatory foods found in nature – whether you take it internally or topically, it’s great for skin. Packed with a photochemical called curcumin, it’s been shown to improve conditions ranging from acne to rosacea and eczema. It’s also anti-oxidant rich and helpful in softening lines and wrinkles. Topically you can try it in the Dr Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil: a multi-use beautiful golden oil which can be used on body, hair and face to deeply hydrate dry and damaged skin. You’ll be amazed at how fast it absorbs, without leaving any oily residue! You can also use it in it’s powdered form to mix up a face mask. We love to use the Wunderworkshop Organic Turmeric Powder teamed with honey and other skinfoods to brighten and feed our skin. Internally you can try your own immune boosting Turmeric Tonic recipe or drink it up in the form of the Golden Turmeric Tea – a delicious, earthy Ayurvedic infusion.
Black Cumin Seed Oil is used in Asian traditional medicine to help treat immune and inflammatory problems. In skincare, it does the job of purifying skin – so great for pimples! Treat them with Odacite’s Pimples Concentrate, which helps to control the spread of spot-causing bacteria.
Ginger is another potent anti-inflammatory for skin. The Ayurvedic-inspired range Amala have included it in their Amala Purifying Blemish Treatment which helps to reduce inflammation and redness associated with spots.
Sesame Oil contains an antioxidant called sesamol, which prevents the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. So it’s no surprise that you’ll find it in most moisturisers with anti-ageing properties! Try ‘feeding’ lips with it too with Hurraw’s Ayurvedic Dosha Lip Balms – which have been especially created for each dosha type and use organic cold press sesame oil as their moisturising base.
