GET THE GUIDE CONCEALER

SOS breakout? You’re not alone – summer’s mixture of heat and sweat, coupled with the use of sunscreen, can clog pores and cause excess oil to form pesky spots and blemishes. While we recommend a good organic skincare regimen to start with, we’ve also rounded up our organic beauty favourites to come to the rescue, which not only help disguise the problem but also in treating it. Read on to find out more.

Best Products to Target Spots

  • rms beauty ‘Un’ Cover-Up: This concealer-slash-foundation treats the area with anti-bacterial coconut oil, as well as covering by melting into the skin for an extremely natural look. You can also set it using the ‘Un’ Powder, particularly useful if you have oily skin. Rose Marie-Swift, founder of rms beauty suggests the ‘less is more’ approach as piling on the make-up will only exaggerate the pimple. Instead, use a tiny brush to touch up on the imperfection and dab some ‘Un’ Cover-Up on and around the area. Read more of her tips from our make-up masterclass here.
  • W3LL PEOPLE Narcissist Foundation works well as a concealer foundation multi-stick for oily and spot prone skin, as it controls shine with oil-absorbing silica. It also contains chamomile which is calming on inflamed skin including spots. It’s also buildable, which is good for those that like more coverage rather than less.
  • Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation also doubles as a concealer due to its satin, slightly matte finish. It also contains coconut oil, which is balanced by the jojoba oil –the closest oil to the skins’ own sebum.

One of our green make-up artists Sjaniel Turrell explains how to use these three multi-taking products to conceal when needed:

There are a number of cream foundations that cleverly double up as concealers – this really helps to keep your make-up bag compact. My three favourite options in this department are W3LL PEOPLE Narcissist Foundation, Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation and rms beauty ‘Un’ Cover-Up.  All three of these products work well both as under-eye and blemish concealer, whilst achieving light to good coverage as a foundation, depending on how you apply them.

How to use: How these products work for you will depend more on your skin tone, type and the kind of finish you prefer.  For a natural glow the creamy texture of the rms beauty ‘Un’ Cover-Up is a great option – when applied with fingers you only need a small amount of product to achieve a large amount of under-eye and spot coverage, because it is so well pigmented. For blemishes or acne that leave you with patches of dry flaky skin that tend to make foundations and concealers cake into the skin, W3LL PEOPLE Narcissist Foundation is the perfect solution for you. The texture softens dry skin due to the Aloe Vera, while the pigments successfully cover any unsightly spots or scars without looking unnatural and give the skin a glowing finish. Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation is a great option for those who like a bit more coverage in general and prefer a more satin/matte finish.

How to Apply: For all these products, using your ring finger to apply them will give you the best concealer coverage – I prefer to dab it on the area, rather than rubbing it in. Using a foundation brush to apply any of these all over the face will give you a natural even coverage as a foundation and will use less product – use the Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation Brush or rms beauty’s new ingenious ‘fingerprint’ Foundation Brush for the best finish. My favourite for a final step in adding longevity and a ‘perfecting’ finish would be to use a light layer of the Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Powder over the entire face.  I love this product because it can be used alternately as a foundation on its own, or as a finishing powder over a cream or liquid foundation. It’s a great option if you don’t wear a full-face all the time, but would like to have something extra for those special occasions. Plus, it’s available in colours that will match most skin tones.  Armed with this and your two-in-one cream foundation/concealer, you’ve literally got it covered!

Want to know what our green make-up experts love?

Lilian Komor – First use treatment like the Amala Purifying Blemish Treatment, as an anti-inflammatory to help reduce redness. Then using a thin eye liner or lip brush, cover a little with rms beauty ‘Un’ Cover-Up, as the high pigment content will help cover any redness. Blend with fingers to avoid any obvious product edges. Finish with the rms beauty Tinted ‘Un’ Powder to fix in place using a cotton pad rolling over the blemishes, so not to move the concealer.

Lou Dartford – In the summer excess sebum and sweat mean that you might need to change your make-up up a bit. I like to cover spots with something that has a slightly drier texture as it will help last longer in the heat. Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation is great to use as a concealer – apply it with a brush for a precise application, like the EcoTools Airbrush Concealer Brush. Gently paint over the blemish and then blend around the outside into the skin. Set with a dusting of translucent powder such as the rms beauty ‘Un’ Powder.
