Make Your Own Yoga Mat Spray & DIY Home Scent

DIY-AROMATHERAPY-4

In the ancient Chinese system of Feng Shui it has long been known that scent has a direct effect on the flow of energy, also referred to as ‘chi’, that permeates within any given space. This month we are excited to bring to you our favourite DIY inspired projects and tips to scent your home, your office and even your yoga mat, through the peaceful, uplifting and calming vitality of Aroma.

Developed over 3000 years ago, Feng Shui is defined as the system of laws that governs spatial arrangement and orientation in relation to the flow of energy. This ancient belief regarded scent as an imperative constituent of achieving a desired environment, with practitioners incorporating various aroma-based remedies to achieve different energetic results.

With scents of lavender, jasmine and ylang-ylang known to evoke a sense of love and sensuality – when incorporated into the practice of Feng Shui – these essential oils can make an ideal bedroom accompaniment, whilst essential oils such as rosemary, peppermint and lemongrass known for their focus and anti-fatigue inducing qualities make them the perfect addition to stressful office environments.

Below we have included our favorite blends to balance, purify and elevate the chi of your environment – we’ve even included our favourite oils to alter the energy of your yoga mat to assist you in winding down, clocking out and getting the most out of your practice.

DIY Essential Oil Diffuser

 What You Need:

  1. Glass or ceramic jar with small opening on top
  2. 4-6 Bamboo skewers or reed sticks
  3. ¼ cup carrier oil (almond oil or safflower oil work well)
  4. Essential oils of your choice – right now we’re loving lavender, lemongrass or blood orange
  5. A splash of vodka

Method:

Add ¼ cup carrier oil and a splash of vodka to a jar or bottle ( we love a vintage apothecary bottle) and mix it thoroughly to combine.

Add the essential oil blend of choice (15-20 drops) and mix. Place sticks into the jar, flipping over after 4 hours after the oil has infused the sticks.

Switch the sticks each week for a lasting natural air-freshener and chi-balancer.

DIY aromatherapy yoga mat spray

What you need:

  1. A midst or spray bottle – we recommend MUJI’s clear spray bottle
  2. 1/4 cup water
  3. a dash of vodka
  4. Essential oil of choice – we recommend Primavera Eucalyptus Essential Oil or Lavender Oil for Relaxation

Method:

Combine the above and shake lightly. Can be applied to a towel and used as a mat refresher or sprayed directly upon your mat to calm and centre the body for an increasingly mindful yoga practise.

Alternatively, for stillness, clarity and focus try out Lotus Wei’s Geranium, lemon and coriander concoction that is the Quiet Mind Energy Mist or if its vitality, strength and a more powerful presence you wish to bring to your practise, try out Lotus Wei’s Pure Energy Mist.

As synthetic scents are thought to have very little power energetically, it is crucial to use pure and natural essential oils. You can find our favourite essential oils and remedies in store or online.
