THE PRODUCT: New Launch – Our Very Own Content Skin Tea Is Available Now!

Content-Skin-TeaWith almost all of us suffering from either hormonal monthly spots or the occasional bout of adult acne we asked CONTENT Medical Herbalist, Jennifer Derham, to formulate us a Herbal Skin Tea to help us through any spot of trouble we may have.

THE PRODUCT: This artisan tea is hand blended using certified organic herbs as a tonic to help promote and support healthy skin. The formulation is based on botanicals traditionally used to cleanse, support and balance the entire system, but is particularly helpful for problematic skin including spots and blemishes that are related to hormonal, digestive or detoxifying issues.

THE INGREDIENTS: Herbs and plants have been used traditionally for centuries to help rejuvenate, heal and protect the skin. With MSc in Ethnobotany from the University of Kent & Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, UK, and qualifications in Nutritional therapy and Health Sciences, Content’s Medical Herbalist Jennifer Derham is just the person to formulate our new CONTENT SKIN TEA.

The herbs that Jennifer has chosen to make this tea special include….

  • Red Clover – Traditionally used as a blood cleanser and detoxifier, it has long been used in the treatment of chronic skin eruptions.  Red Clover contains isoflavones which have been shown to have a balancing effect on hormones, making it useful for treating hormone related skin conditions including acne.
  • Marigold –  Cleansing and detoxifying by its nature, it has been used traditionally for a wide range of skin conditions. The petals contain high amounts of carotenes (orange colouring), which can be converted in the body to Vitamin A, essential for healthy skin.  The high resin content, provides Marigold with its’ powerful anti-inflammatory action, hence making it an invaluable remedy for inflamed skin.
  • Cleavers – Traditionally used in ‘spring drinks’ to cleanse the system. Cleavers has a long history of use for treating chronic skin conditions including acne, eczema and psoriasis.
  • Alfalfa – Detoxifying and alkalising, with a long history of dietary and medicinal uses.  This nutrient rich plant contains high amounts of chlorophyll, an important therapeutic agent for the skin, shown to stimulate cell multiplication and tissue repair. Also rich in Vitamin A, important for building and maintaining healthy skin, and helping the skin to fight infection.
  • Echinacea – Traditionally used in the treatment of a wide range of skin disorders.  Shown to help promote and support a healthy immune system overall, it contains anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties, which may be helpful especially where bacteria are implicated in acne outbreaks.  Research has found echinacea to be a powerful blood cleanser, it improves lymphatic filtration helping to rid the system of unwanted toxins.
  • Hibiscus – Traditionally considered a tonic, Hisbiscus has been found to be extremely high in anti-oxidants, particularly anthocyanidins as well as vitamin C, which help strengthen and protect the skin generally.  Anthocyanidins and vitamin C have been shown to have a positive effect on collagen production, which helps keep skin firm and promotes the constant renewal of skin cells
  • Orange Peel – contains beta-carotene, converted to vitamin A by your body, which is beneficial for your immune system as well as healthy skin. Beta-carotene is also an antioxidant, which helps protect your body and skin from free radicals that may cause cell damage.

HOW TO USE: A heaped teaspoon in a cup of boiling water will do the trick. Leave it for at least 5 minutes to steep and enjoy. If your skin is going through an break-out phase, steep the tea for 15-30 minutes for a more potent medicinal effect. Add this tea to your day and help support your skin health from the inside out!

WE LOVE: The addition of orange peel makes this tea easy to drink throughout the day, rather than a chore! In the summer, try chilling it with some mint and lemon for a therapeutic ‘Skin Iced Tea’……we’ve even been known to use the warm tea as a face tonic by compressing onto the skin with a cloth. Try chilling some and adding to a spray bottle for a cooling facial spritz in the hot summer months. or make a bath ball and steep it in your bath during winter.
