Following her own health crisis in 1998, Annee de Mamiel could not find a natural, healing product that worked for her. This re-ignited a passion for mixing and blending beautiful oils and herbs to create her cult seasonal facial oils and must have Altitude Oil.
Annee studied Chinese Medicine with the intention of combining ancient Chinese philosophy with an understanding of Western science. She applied this learning to create a range of treatments which reduce the harsh impact of everyday life on the face by treating the underlying conditions and creating balance and harmony within the body – de Mamiel is the culmination of this knowledge and training. With a wealth of knowledge from years of study and treating clients we asked Annee to share her ‘Rules To Live By’…..
We all know Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but the temptation to skip it can be great if you are in a hurry. What’s your favourite start to the day?
After my warm lemon water and meditation time I love my porridge – with a handful of almonds, crushed linseed, chia and pumpkin seeds and blueberries sets me up for the day!
How do you move it?
Iyengar Yoga without a doubt, I love that you work your body and your mind at the same time – building strength while completely calming your nervous system. I really feel like I can cope with everything life has to throw at me after yoga, it’s a case of bring it on!
Skin Sense: Which three beauty products are you never without?
- Seasonal Facial Oil – The Summer Oil this year is a real delight, it just reminds me of being in the South of France, the heat coming off the land, the faint smell of herbs mint and thyme and gentle hint of jasmine – heaven!
- Sunscreen – everyday even in the winter, I use a 50+ sunscreen in the Summer as I spend so much time in the water and will have at least a 20 on in the winter – a definite carry over from being Australian!
- Cleanser – Loving the Oskia Cleanser at the moment!
Everyone needs space and time to relax. What is your holiday destination of choice?
Holidays for me have to have water and the sea – sailing, surfing, kite-surfing and Stand up Paddling. I think one of the most amazing places we have been was Maui, there is something so spiritual about the land; watching the sunrise over the volcano and going to parts of the island away from all the resorts reveals the true beauty and diversity of such a tiny place. Life there is vibrant – the people are incredibly happy and friendly, food is fresh and in some ways, it feels like you are going back in time.
What do you love most about your what you do?
After a treatment when my patients come out, you see such a change in their faces, there is life back in their skin and their Shen (that spark in their eye, in Chinese Medicine that is your Spirit) is back and as I am working on them you can see these changes taking place under your fingers. as we I love working with my patients and seeing the positive changes they make in their lives and how that makes them feel so much better about themselves, I am helping to make a real difference it takes time but they are so rewarding and knowing I have played a small part in that is what it is all about for me.
What’s your secret to being content?
I believe it is a combination of meditation, yoga, qi gong – if you think about it on a line of extremes you have complete stillness in meditation and movement in yoga while qi gong is the middle ground – it creates the stillness and awareness within, allowing a flow of energy with your body.
If you had to choose one, what would be your ‘Rule to Live By’
Live your life with memories not just dreams and Just Breathe!
